Cost of Scouting

What is the cost to join?

When compared to the cost of sports and many other activities, there is no doubt that Scouting delivers great value to its members! Some may even argue that you can’t put a price tag on the life skills learned. At Pack 358, we strive to make every scouter’s experience memorable – and hopefully life-long. We also believe in having full transparency with our members, which means no hidden costs.

BSA Membership

The annual BSA membership fee is $72, which covers 12 months of membership. BSA fees are valid from January to December of the current calendar year. Since our pack runs year round, we collect based on the school year (September - August), which includes BSA fees for the current year (pro-rated) and the next calendar year. 

Join Fee

BSA collects a one-time $25 new membership processing fee. 

Circle Ten Insurance 

A minimal cost paid by all BSA members to offset the cost of the general liability insurance premium that covers all scouters, scouting families, and scouting events. 

Pack Dues 

Covers the costs of awards and recognition, crafts, supplies, pack incidentals, and a pack t-shirt. Pack 358 conducts fundraisers to help offset these costs. Dues are established by the pack committee based on historical and estimated future costs.

Boys’ Life Magazine 

For only $1 a month, Cub Scouts may subscribe to Boys’ Life magazine, the official youth magazine of BSA, which helps Scouts to be a better Scout. Boys’ Life subscribers advance in rank faster, stay in Scouting longer, and are more active in den and pack, and patrol and troop activities than Scouts who do not receive Boys’ Life.
